Upcoming webinar on WATO, including new features

A quick reminder that this Wednesday, 3rd June 2020, I will be giving a live webinar at Legacy Family Webinars on What Are the Odds? (WATO). You can get more details and register for the free webinar at the Legacy Family Tree Webinars site.

Update: the archived webinar is freely available to view here.

I’ll be introducing the concept of WATO and talking about the different ways it can be used. I’ll also present two case studies and introduce the features of the new beta version.

WATO?

For those who are not familiar with the tool, a brief history:

Leah Larkin came up with the concept of a tool that could apply probabilities to genealogical problems. She collaborated with Andrew Millard on a spreadsheet-based tool. This was extremely powerful but rather cumbersome to use.

With a great deal of effort (!), I developed a tree-based web version in late 2017, and we launched this in the summer of 2018. You can find the existing version (launched in 2018) right here in the tools section, and there’s also an FAQ that explains some of the key concepts.

New features

One result of the tool’s popularity has been a constant stream of requests for new features and functionality. While I can’t promise to have implemented all suggestions, I’m excited to launch the new beta version, which includes some very powerful features. I’m looking forward to making further improvements based on suggestions from users.

I hope you’re able to tune in; if not, the recording will be archived for future viewing at a time of your convenience! I’ll update this post with the link once it’s available.

In the meantime if you’d like to whet your appetite, Leah has a new post that might be of interest.
